Water and Health

People who lived thousands of years ago knew that drinking an ample supply of healthy water is one of the most important "medicines" available to restore a balanced flow of life energy. It is just as true today. The problem in our modern times is that human populations have exploded, and we are running out of fresh drinking water supplies. What is there is becoming increasingly polluted. Having a reliable supply of clean water has never been more important.

Water Prevents Upper Respiratory Infections

A study conducted in Britain recently concluded that the risk of getting a stuffy nose, sore throat or flu can be massively reduced by simply drinking enough water.

Researchers said that people who drink just three glasses of water a day are five times more likely to get a blocked nose or sore throat than those who drink the recommended eight glasses. People who drink two-and-a-half glasses or less are nearly four times more likely to get flu, and three times more likely to suffer constipation than those people who drink three glasses or more.

Dr. David Lewis, who carried out the research, explained the results this way: "The first line of defense is the mucus membrane in the nose," he said. "This acts like a sticky fly paper to trap things like dust, dirt and bacteria and prevent them getting to the lungs. "If you are dehydrated the mucus membrane will dry out and when this happens it is half as effective in stopping the potentially harmful particles entering the system."

Dr Lewis added: "The human body can survive for weeks without food but it needs water, yet most of us are happy to stuff ourselves with food and deprive our cells and organs of essential fluids. This understandably has a big effect on our day-to-day well-being. As the results of these trials illustrate, everyday health complaints can be improved and even eradicated simply by drinking the recommended amount of water every day."

Water Helps Cure Asthma, Arthritis, Chronic Low Back Pain, Colitis, Heart Burn, and Heart Disease

According to Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D., an internationally renowned researcher, author and advocate of the natural healing power of water, chronic dehydration is often overlooked as the cause of many common diseases including asthma, arthritis, chronic back pain, colitis, heart burn, angina, high cholesterol and more.

He practiced medicine in the United Kingdom before moving to Iran where he played a key role in the development of hospitals there. When the Iranian Revolution broke out in 1979, Dr. Batmanghelidj was placed in the infamous Evin Prison as a political prisoner for two years and seven months. It was there he discovered the healing powers of water. Water was the only medicine he had available. In advising fellow prisoners to drink more water for conditions like peptic ulcer he was amazed to find out that the treatment worked! After that experience he spent the next 20 years researching the importance of water as a medicine.

How Much Water Should You Be Drinking?

If you would like to see a dramatic difference in your health and energy levels, begin your day by drinking at least 1 liter of water first thing in the morning as soon as you wake up. Try to get in the habit of consuming 1 fluid oz. of water a day for every 3 pounds of your body weight.
